Wat Sriboonruang Meditation Center
2018/2019 report

We have had a busy year, with between 1 and 6 guests staying at the meditation centre at any one time.

Our guests came from all over the world, including from here in Thailand, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden and the USA. While many of our guests visited for the first time, we were delighted to welcome back returning guests eager to deepen their meditation practice.

Our peaceful surroundings and the teaching offered by Phra Clyde, an experienced meditation teacher, helped our guests throughout the year. Everyone has their own reasons for learning meditation. Some guests want to manage and live with a range of conditions, from ADHD to PTSD. Other guests want to learn meditation for the first time to observe and calm their mind, deepen their spiritual practice or move further towards liberation.

During the year, a Swedish documentary team spent some time with us to film a documentary about a young Swedish man looking to get his life back on track. Not only was the meditation teaching helpful for the young man, the crew enjoyed their stay at the meditation so much that they cancelled their hotel bookings to enjoy their time with us!

We received numerous enquiries from travel agencies for organised visits, and featured in Merian, a German travel magazine.

The meditation centre is growing in size. We now have 20 kutis, with groundwork laid for 2 dormitories for groups. Our third walking meditation path is now complete and construction has finished on a Buddha statue in Cambodian style.

Meanwhile, we are proud that one of our English students at the Wat’s Fang Dhammasuksa school took first place in the local English competition, and went on to represent Fang at the regional competition in Chiang Mai.
